If you’re a gardening novice in need of tips or looking to take your veggie patch to the next level, you’ll want to come down to the Perth Garden Festival.
Lifelong gardening fanatics Deryn Thorpe and Steve Wood will be alongside guest chefs Anna Gare, Guy Jeffreys and Vince Gareffa at the Kleenheat Kitchen across four big days, sharing their advice for growing the best quality produce to cook at home.
Together they have a wealth of gardening experience: Steve as a plant wholesaler for 40 years and Deryn as an award winning writer for Gardening Australia magazine.
In 2017, they decided to join forces and create a brand new podcast – All The Dirt – dishing up gardening advice to inspire green thumbs across the country.
All The Dirt features some of Australia’s best known gardeners and chefs and topics of discussion include sustainability, plant research and of course, good food!
For Deryn and Steve, it’s all about encouraging people to create their own beautiful gardens and spend more time in natural environments.
“We’re passionate about growing and cooking our own organic produce as growing food or creating beautiful gardens doesn’t just feed the body, it feeds the soul too,” Deryn said.
Steve enjoys listening to podcasts while he gardens and hopes listeners will find the seasonal planting information they provide useful.
“Perth and Western Australia has some challenging conditions for gardening including poor soils, limited water and a searing summer heat,” he said.
“But if you follow the guidelines we provide on the podcast then you can achieve success.”
All The Dirt has quickly blossomed into the number one gardening podcast in Australia, recently winning the Horticultural Media Association of Australia’s Laurel Award for the best audio gardening program in Australia.
Upcoming guests on the podcast include Millbrook Winery head chef Guy Jeffreys and Mondo Butcher’s Vince Gareffa. Tune in on their website and have a browse through for recipes, fact sheets and a whole lot more.
